Village Explorers

Cooking/Baking

Children learn by exploring with their senses and so the 'kitchen' is an ideal place to do that. Not only can cooking help toddlers and preschoolers learn, they practice some basic maths and build language skills, the experience of preparing food and cooking can help build self-confidence and lay the foundations for healthy eating habits. Parents and guardians often find that the children are much more likely to try foods with us that they would never consider trying at home. What's more, if you are lucky you will get to sample the lovely biscuits, savoury muffins, cakes, soup, pizza or fruit kebabs your child has lovingly made with pride! In the past, we have had the privilege of experiencing traditional Thai cuisine!

People who help us

At Rainbows we create opportunities for our children to gain knowledge and understanding of the world around them and make connections between people, places and their own local community.

We integrate this through various daily activities, such as, role play areas, dress up, books, rhymes and songs, creation and craft, games and talking to the children. However, we also like to ‘bring a topic to life’ and are lucky enough to regularly welcome ‘people who help us’. Whether it be a local nurse, doctor, dentist, police officer or fire fighter, our children are always excited about meeting amazing people with amazing jobs!

Hoglets

Hoglets deliver educational wildlife workshops giving children the opportunity to learn about and enjoy British wildlife. The workshops are interactive learning experiences where our children can meet wildlife,

make a wildlife craft and master a fact or two through story, fun games and activities. We were able to see a hedgehog up close in the Happy Hedgehog workshop and have also participated in The Owl Babies and Winter Wonderland Wildlife workshops. All have been an amazing experience.

Outdoor Play Area

Our outside space provides exciting and stimulating areas for the children to learn and grow. These include a reading zone, mark-making zone, music zone, painting, water, sand, dinosaur land, climbing frames, balls and hoops, role play zone, bikes and scooters, construction, small world play and a teaching zone. These areas evolve and change over time providing children with new experiences.

Eco Garden

Rainbows has a small eco garden where children have opportunities to dig, plant, watch wildlife and see how the environment changes with the passing of the seasons.
